Illustrating for zines is a fantastic way of storytelling through words and pictures.
This zine is produced on an A3 piece of paper which is divided into eight sections. These eight sections join together in a sequence to tell a story and they can contain words or pictures or both, it is up to you!
Planning is important to decide what you are to illustrate. Step one, to note down the eight milestones of your story on a piece of paper. Step two, to fold the A3 piece of paper into eight sections, numbering them from one to eight. Step three, Use your imagination to draw or write to bring your story to life.
After you are happy will your illustrated story, carefully go over the graphite pencil with a felt tip pen or fine liner.
The illustrations are now ready to be processed onto acetate and be exposed onto a silkscreen for printing onto paper.

The next step is printing the illustrated zine onto a selection of coloured pieces of card.
We encourage the group to divide into pairs and to support each other in the screen printing process. One person holds the silkscreen down on the paper within the registration marks and the other pulls the ink over the screen and prints.

Once the zines have been printed and dried, it’s time to fold them into a zine booklet, ready to share with our family and friends.
