‘We Stand Together’, by six million plus charitable trust performance project highlighting the plight of displaced people around the world, current and historical.
Taking influence from the rich textile heritage of North Kirklees, shoddy was used to design button discs with representational images sewn onto from countries that are or have experienced war or genocide. During the performance, these performed different roles, bags of belongings and stepping stones for example.
I was commissioned to facilitate the creation of two muslin banners to act as stage properties to assist in the transition of the people fleeing across and sea to sanctuary.

The ‘journey’ banner: The imagery was collated through members of the group sharing their experiences during discussions. The silhouetted people were hand-painted onto the muslin cloth creating a liner line in one direction, away from their homeland.
The ‘sea’ banner: Explored the origins of ‘Paisley’ through the tacticity of hand printing and monoprint shapes and motifs depicting Peace and Hope.

During the summer workshops, the group design and make two performative banners that would be used and manipulated by the group in a theatrical performance staged in Dewsbury and inside Dewsbury Town Hall.
